Sandi Morris 1st Place Women's Pole Vault - Acadia Invitational 2020
Published by
Sandi Morris equaled the world outdoor pole vault lead with her first-attempt clearance at 15-9.25 (4.81m) at the Acadia Invitational in Piedmont, S.C. Morris tied with fellow American Katie Nageotte, who cleared 15-9.25 on her third attempt. It marked the first time two U.S. female pole vaulters both cleared at least 15-9.25 at the same outdoor competition after the feat had been achieved on four occasions indoors in the past five years. It was also the first official event showcased on the UCS Spirit "Pink Panther" pit, with Morris and her father Harry building the new facility in the spring during the Coronavirus pandemic. It was the second time in Morris' career that she achieved a world-leading mark in her home state, including a 16-2.75 (4.95m) clearance at the 2018 Liberty Bridge Jump-Off, her annual meet that was replaced this July by the Acadia Invitational in an effort to reduce spectators and practice social distancing. |
